Steubenville WTOV-NBC. Ohio Congressman Bill Johnson spent one of his final days of his August recess in Scio at the Harrison County Williams oil and gas plant. The representative sat down with leaders from the Ohio Oil and Gas Association, the Ohio Energy Education Program to discuss resources available in Eastern Ohio."We're sitting on top of some of the richest reserves of oil and gas in the world,” Johnson said."So, meeting with some of their member organizations or their member companies touring the Williams fractionation plant here in Scio, it was a great day."The Williams plant serves as a central hub, making it worthwhile to bring to the attention of those in Washington D.C."First of all, this is where the resource is,” Johnson said. “This is a hub. There are multiple plants in this hub that has been created here and by 2050 about 45-plus percent of our nation's natural gas demand is going to be coming from this region of the country.""We know that Congressman Johnson supports oil and gas,” Mike Chadsey, director of public relations for the Ohio Oil and Gas Association, said. “What we asked him to do was talk to your colleagues in both chambers, in both parties and talk to them about how important oil and gas is to the state of Ohio is to your district, to the country."The small town of Scio has a lot of oil and gas opportunities, and Johnson said it’s his job to make sure that his colleagues know it."Ohio has been regulating oil and natural gas since 1965,” Johnson said. “Other states look at Ohio as the model for how to do this."Whether we're talking to representatives of the administration from the Energy Department, from the National Energy Regulatory Commission, the EPA, the Army Corps of Engineers, those agencies within the administration that issue regulations that affect this industry, you can better believe I sound off about the importance of the resources that we have here."By Dylan ClelandClick here to view the original article.
