Licking County Officials Tour Local Rig, Highlight Ohio Produced Energy

HEBRON, OH – This week community stakeholders from Licking County joined the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program (OOGEEP) to tour a natural gas and oil rig, giving them a chance to see firsthand the booming energy industry in Ohio. Those on the tour were given the chance to learn about everything that goes into producing homegrown Ohio energy, this includes the stringent safety procedures in place at all times and the importance of these investments on our region.

“We are blessed with natural gas and oil resources that are cleaner, more efficient and abundant right here in Licking County and all across Ohio’s 12th Congressional District,” said Congressman Troy Balderson. “I am grateful for the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program efforts shining a light on our local energy workers who make this essential energy available for Ohio consumers.”

“Having the opportunity to see and hear from Ohioans who are working to power our nation is powerful. I’ve always known Ohio has a large natural gas and oil industry but until you see the operation in person you don’t realize how impactful it is,” said State Representative Kevin Miller.

“It was educational to see firsthand that Licking County is responsibly producing the essential natural gas and oil needed to power our area and state,” said Licking County Commissioner Tim Bubb.

Ohio is one of the top energy producing states in the nation, in 2021 the state produced 18.8 million barrels of oil and 2.25 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. However, there are still Ohioans who don’t realize the immense resources our state holds directly under our feet. OOGEEP is working to ensure all are educated on the importance of the natural gas and oil industry to Ohio and the nation. Participants on the tour included Congressman Troy Balderson, State Senator Jay Hottinger (OH-31), State Rep. Kevin Miller (OH-72), State Rep. Elect Thad Claggett (OH-68), Rick Platt with the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority and Licking County Commissioner Tim Bubb.

“We are always thrilled to welcome people out to experience for themselves the energy production happening in our state. However, as we get closer to winter it’s even more important to highlight the men and women in Ohio who are working to heat our homes with safe and reliable energy,” said George Brown, Executive Director of OOGEEP.
