Schaffer Introduces Bill Supporting Ohio’s Oil and Gas Industry

COLUMBUS – State Senator TIM SCHAFFER (R-Lancaster) today introduced Senate Bill 363, which will create the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program (OOGEEP) license plate.

“Ohio’s oil and gas industry is critical to our infrastructure and sustained success of our economy,” Schaffer said. “I am proud to support the oil and gas industry and all the Ohio families that depend on it. I hope this license plate will help fund OOGEEP scholarships and improve education in the industry.”

The intention of the bill is to raise awareness and improve education about the oil and gas industry. It will also help raise funds for the OOGEEP’s scholarship program that awards prospective students who are preparing for a career in the oil and gas industry.

“This license plate will help promote awareness around Ohio-made natural gas and oil, which is an essential energy source,” said George Brown, Executive Director of OOGEEP. “It will also create additional workforce development resources for students pursuing careers in our robust energy industry. Over 208,000 Ohio jobs are tied directly to the natural gas and oil industry, and this license plate will provide scholarship funds to sustain future job opportunities.”

OOGEEP provides a variety of programs throughout the state of Ohio on behalf of Ohio’s natural gas and oil producers. The primary goal of these programs is to educate Ohio’s consumers and leaders by focusing on industry research, teacher workshops, scholarships, science fair, firefighter training, workforce development, landowner and guest speaker programs.

“The creation of the OOGEEP license plate will help Ohio high school students pursue a higher education in an industry that is critical for our economy and national security,” said Rob Brundrett, President of the Ohio Oil & Gas Association. “I want to thank Senator Schaffer for introducing this legislation and for his continued support of our industry and Ohio’s students.”

Senate Bill 363 will now head to the Senate Transportation Committee for further consideration.
