After all it is energy enlightenment month.Did you know that Ohio is a leader in energy production? It produces 2.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 27 million barrels of crude oil each year. Four refineries in the state, such as the Senovas refinery here in Lima, are turning much of their production into a variety of petrochemical products used in the production of asphalt, plastics and the like.We also use natural gas produced in Ohio to produce electricity. The significant increase in the use of natural gas for power generation has even led to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. For the state’s power generation sector. Between 2005 and 2015, increased use of natural gas in this sector reduced carbon emissions by 50 million tonnes.Energy Awareness Month provides a great opportunity for all of us to think about the important role that the natural gas and oil industries play in providing the important Ohio energy we use every day.George Brown,Executive DirectorOhio Oil and Gas Energy Education ProgramClick here to view the original article.
