Opinion: October is Energy Awareness Month

Warren Tribune. This month is full of spooky celebrations, but did you know that October is also Energy Awareness Month and that Ohio is a leader in energy production? In fact, Ohio produces 2.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 27 million barrels of crude oil every year. That’s enough natural gas to heat over 28.1 million homes for the winter and make enough oil to produce nearly 4 million car tires! We also use much of that natural gas to produce electricity. In 2020, 43 percent of Ohio’s electricity production came from natural gas, a stat that could grow this year, thanks to the opening of a new $1.3 billion natural gas-fired power plant near Wellsville. When you flip on your porch light for trick-or-treaters this year, take a moment to remember the role Ohio’s natural gas and oil industry plays in providing essential Ohio energy.GEORGE BROWNExecutive Director,Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education ProgramGranvilleClick here to view the original article.
